FSU’s Season in Review: Top 5 moments of the 2023 season
FSU football had an amazing season that should be celebrated. In this article, we will look at the Top 5 moments of this past season.
Honorable Mentions:
- FSU’s win over Duke
#5: Garnet The Goldfish
One viral sensation that captivated FSU fans and the rest of the nation was Garnet the Goldfish. Started by FSU student Jack Henyecz, it became a staple in Tallahassee, being the good luck charm to the Noles. Garnet went to every game no matter how far away it was. He even went up to Chestnut Hill in Boston! Everyone loved the fish except for the security at Bank of America Stadium.
#4: Beating Both Rivals
Another big moment of the season was being state champions. FSU beat both rivals for the second year in a row, the first time that has happened since 2016. With the scores of 27-20 over Miami and 24-15 over Florida, the Noles handled business against the in-state rivals.
#3: ACC Champions
A moment that will be remembered from the 2023 season was being crowned ACC champions for the first time since 2014. Without starting QB Jordan Travis and backup QB Tate Rodemaker, true freshman Brock Glenn was thrown out against #16 Louisville. Despite the downgrade at QB, FSU was still able to put up 16 points and win 16-6. It capped off an undefeated regular season, and brought FSU to 13 wins for only the 3rd time in FSU history. It is the 19th conference championship in FSU history.
#2: The Trip To Death Valley
An overtime catch by Keon Coleman helped FSU win in Death Valley for the first time since 2013. The best moment of this game was Kalen DeLoach’s strip fumble and touchdown on Clemson QB Cade Klubnik in the 3rd quarter. Clemson was looking to score to go up by 2 touchdowns, but DeLoach was not going to let that happen. This was one of the best plays of the entire season. If they were to score on that drive, FSU would probably have not won the game.
#1: Season Opener In Orlando
In my opinion, FSU’s season opener against LSU was the best moment of the season. Going into the game, LSU was ranked #5 while we were ranked #8. All major websites had LSU winning and even predicted them to make the playoffs. Everyone was counting us out but we shocked the nation, blowing them out 45-24. (It was really 45-17 without a garbage time TD) FSU was behind 14-17 at the half, but then scored 31 straight unanswered points in the second half in route to the blowout. It showed FSU was in contention to be a playoff team.
