Florida State Gets Their First ACC Win Over Georgia Tech
TALLAHASSEE FL – It was a good night for the men’s basketball team, winning 82-71 over Georgia Tech and getting their first conference win of the season. Led by Cam Corhen and Chandler Jackson, the Noles get their largest margin of victory over a power 5 team so far this season.
FSU had a slow start on offense, scoring their first points 3 minutes in. After Jalen Warley scored, they were able to find a steady rhythm. They did not let GT lead the game again. The Noles went on a 10-0 run after scoring the first points, leading 10-3 with 13:29 left.
The Seminoles continued to lay it on the Yellow Jackets, going up by 12 with Tom House’s three point shot with 5:28.
FSU held Georgia Tech to their lowest scoring first half of the season, giving up only 19 points. FSU led 32-19 after a late putback from Cam Corhen gave them two.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets could not get anything to drain. Georgia Tech went 1/14 from 3 and 8/30 from the paint.
FSU shot better, going 4-10 from 3 and 13-32 from the paint. Chandler Jackson had 7 points and Cam Corhen had 4 points.
After the second half started, FSU continued to extend their lead, going up by 17 points with a Josh Nickelberry free throw.
With 3:20 left, GT was able to cut the lead down to 8, but they could not get any closer as FSU was able to hold on to win.
Chandler Jackson had a personal best game, scoring a career high 14 points tonight. He shot 1-2 from 3 and 5-7 from the paint.
FSU shot 41.2% from the 3 point line and 51.7% from the paint. They were able to get a lot of guys to score, and they shot well.
FSU will go to 1-1 in conference play and 7-6 on the season while GT will go to 1-1 in conference play and 8-5 on the year.
