Florida State Continues Raid Of Alabama’s Roster Landing Roydell Williams
Florida State just added yet another Alabama transfer in 5’10” 214 pound running back Roydell Williams. Williams is a senior and will have one year of eligibility remaining with the Seminoles.
Williams was a four star recruit according to 247 Sports coming out of high school and matched that as a four star recruit as a transfer.
In his career at Alabama Roydell Williams tallied over 1,165 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns including this past season where he had statistically his best season taking the ball 111 times for 560 yards and 5 touchdowns. Roydell Williams was part of a committee of running backs pairing carries with Jase Mclellan. Due to this Williams is seeking a place where he can expand his carries and be the man in the backfield.
Williams brings a huge frame to FSU and has the ability to both break off medium to long runs and display a level of power if needed. Roydell also is a threat catching the ball where if needed he can be a quick dump off and gain extra yards and at times break a big one.
Williams will most likely be getting the ball a lot in the fall and will be able to show what he is capable of, likely getting the most carries he will ever get in a season while also splitting time with both Lawrence Toafili and Caziah Holmes.
Williams compares to former Florida State running backs Devonta Freeman and Karlos Williams and even shows some qualities that Trey Benson had. Both weren’t the fastest but had good size and good show power and patience in moving around defenders to get yardage.
Williams might be one of the best pickups Florida State has received in the entire cycle due to his proven track record and looks to be an excellent piece to a running back room looking to replace Trey Benson. There are still plenty of players in the portal Florida State could take advantage of including several former Alabama standouts.
