Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) To Allow NIL For High Schoolers: What This Means For FSU Recruits
Name, Image and Likeness has finally reached the high school level in Florida. Earlier today, the governing body for Florida High School Athletics (FHSAA) voted to approve NIL for athletes across the state. This has the possibility of totally reshaping the landscape of high school athletics and football in particular. The vote was by unanimous decision meaning there were no objections to this.
Schools and boosters will not be permitted to take part in this nor will they be allowed to create collectives. Athletes will be able to receive endorsements from businesses. The parents/guardians will be in charge of signing off on these deals and they will not be allowed to use the schools logo, name, uniform, or equipment.
The punishment for breaking these rules is a warning for the first offense and a one year suspension for a second offense. Additionally, athletes who transfer mid season will not be allowed to take part in NIL deals unless it falls under the FHSAA’s “good cause exemption.”
All 4 recruits currently committed to FSU in the class of 2025 are from the state of Florida as well as the 3 commits in the class of 2026 so this is applicable to them. In the 2025 class, the Noles have verbal commits from 5 star OT Solomon Thomas, 4 star EDGE Javion Hilson, 3 star QB Tramell Jones Jr, and 3 star LB Ethan Pritchard. In the 2026 class, FSU has commits from 4 star ATH Daryonn Williams, 3 star WR Efrem White, and 3 star S Darryl Bell III.
It will certainly interesting to watch how NIL plays out in the state of Florida. Will the rich schools only get richer from this? Will this create superteams? Will it disrupt the competitiveness and parity of high school sports? Only time will tell. In the meantime, players will be getting paid and enjoying the high life.
